We had great fun over the last few weeks with the Ice Bucket Challenge.
The Ice Bucket Challenge, sometimes called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research. In the America many people do it on behalf of the ALS Association, and in the Ireland, many people participate for The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.
It became popular on social media this summer and we decided to join-in and do our bit for the cause.

We watched a number of people from all over the world completing this challenge, it was very entertaining watching people’s reactions to the cold water. One such video however struck a cord with us all here in EVE Estuary. It was made by Anthony Carbajal who has the disease and has looked after family members who have suffered from it also.
“It was good fun! I’d love to do it again next year. Next time I would nominate Emma Tierney. I got water thrown on me and I also threw water over some of the other people that took part. It was a great laugh! I really felt great about raising money for this disease. I felt so sorry for the man in the video and his mother. It inspired me and made me want to do more for people in need.” – Chris O’Neill
“I did it to help people with motor neurone disease. Although it was very cold, I found it to be a very good way to raise money for this charity.” – Stephen Deegan
“I enjoyed doing the challenge. We were doing it for a very good cause, that is close to my heart.” – Mark Leahy
“I wanted to do my bit to help raise money for this charity. I also wanted to be apart of the group that were brave enough to take the plunge.” – John Yilmaz
“It was very good and interesting to watch people getting watered down by the ice bucket challenge. They were all very brave! It was also very good of everyone who donated money, even if they didn’t complete the challenge.” – Kieran Morris
“I felt great after the ice bucket challenge. It was for a great cause and I am happy that I took part.” – Anthony Murray
“It was great for raising money and having fun at the same time. I would do it all over again if I had to.” – Janet Hogan
“I had great fun soaking some of the lads with water.” – Paddy Tunstead
“It was good fun and for a great cause. It has been very funny watching the videos of everyone getting soaked.” – Christy Fagan
We are so proud of everyone that completed the challenge here in EVE Estuary and to everyone that donated. We raised a grand total of €134.91 for The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association!!!!!
