Today is Pancake Tuesday (also known as ‘Shrove Tuesday’ or ‘Fat Tuesday’ in other countries).
It is the last day before Lent and many people like to indulge in foods that they might sacrifice for the upcoming forty days.
To celebrate this day, we made pancakes!!
We used a selection of toppings which included ice cream, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, lemon and sugar.
“The pancakes were delicious” – John Yilmaz
“I love ice cream with warm pancake, it was a treat” – John Meenan
“They were quite easy to make” – Louise Donnelly
Here are some brilliant examples of other people’s pancakes, that we found on the internet.
We especially love the pancakes that Nathan Shield’s created. Check out his videos below and his website – www.saipancakes.com
Check out this video, that we found, of the creation of the worlds largest pancake back in 1972.
To date, the largest pancake in the world was was created in Rochdale, Manchester, UK in 1994, by the Co-Operative Union, Ltd. Measuring 15.01 m (49 ft 3 in) in diameter and 2.5 cm (1 in) thick, the pancake weighed 3 tonnes (6,614 lb), and took more than just a frying pan to flip over!
Today is also Mardi Gras!
Mardi Gras is part of the ‘Carnival’ celebration during the run up to lent. The term Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” and refers to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Cities like New Orleans and Rio De Janeiro throw massive street parades to celebrate this day.
