Ciaran’s off to the Special Olympic World Games 2015, in Los Angeles
Our very own Athlete, Ciaran Bailey, should be winging his way to L.A. this morning. He is officiating for basketball, at the Special Olympic World Games 2015.
On July 25th the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games opens in Los Angeles, California. The 2015 Games will feature competitions in aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, basketball, football (soccer) and many other summer sports involving 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from around the world.
Last Thursday we hosted a ‘fairground themed’ party to celebrate Ciaran’s wonderful achievement and to wish him good luck.
The competition was intense! People were queuing up to take part in all the different events. We started with a ‘Welly Throwing’ competition, where wellies were thrown far and wide. The clear winner in the men’s heats was Paddy Tunstead, followed closely by Roy Quinn. The women’s heats was won by Maureen Rooney, with Pauline Rush and Josie Smith taking joint second.
‘Hoop on the Legs’ was the next exciting game, Vicky Judge and Edward Gannon were triumphant in this.
‘Hook-A-Duck’ saw intense concentration and a lot of ducks hooked.
Following a lovely lunch, we had the ‘Burst a Balloon’ competition where contestants had to burst a balloon with a dart to get a prize.
Everyone had a great day and really enjoyed all of the games.
We wish Ciaran all the very best of luck in L.A. and hope that he enjoys this amazing experience. We look forward to hearing all about it on his return.
We would like to thank Matthew Colgan for creating the beautiful banner and card which we presented to Ciaran at the party.
