The Harvest Kitchen

We have been reaping the rewards of our autumn harvest here in EVE Estuary, all thanks to the Kitchen and Independent Living Skills module.

Over the past two months, we have been busy baking apple pies and cakes, creating crumbles, making jam, sauces and preparing vegetables for freezing.

Apple Pies & Crumbles

“I helped to make a delicious raspberry and apple crumble. Both the raspberries and apples came from the centres garden.” – Cornelius O’Callaghan

Raspberry Jam

We made raspberry jam and served it on slice of homemade apple and madeira cake.

We worked really hard cleaning, peeling and chopping the vegetables, from our garden, to preparing them for blanching and freezing. This way we reduce waste and have home grown vegetables ready to use throughout the year.

Passata Sauce

“I made a passata sauce. We put some tomatoes (from our tunnel), garlic, basil and parsley (from our herb garden) into a pot and brought it to the boil. We allowed it to simmer to bring out the flavours. Everyone agreed it was full of flavour.” – Louise Donnelly

We are really enjoying the harvest season.
